Books

Prescription for Nutritional Healing, by Balch & Balch - the single most-used book in our home for many years, it is very well organized to provide an overview of nutritional requirements of the body (water, vitamins, minerals, etc.), an A-to-Z list of health conditions/ailments, their symptoms/causes and how one might address them nutritionally, and a final section on additional complementary natural therapies.  Be sure to obtain the most recent edition.

The Mood Cure, by Julia Ross, M.A. - Underscores the importance of amino acids and proper diet to address moods & more: eating disorders, alcoholism, drug addiction, sleep disorders, adrenal/thyroid health, and balancing hormones.  It is a cure because by supplementing with certain amino acids and other supporting nutrients, one rebuilds the body's natural capacity to utilize the amino acids properly.  If done properly, in 6-weeks to 6-months, the body no longer requires supplementation provided proper diet is maintained (i.e. there are sufficient key amino acids present in the diet).

The Vitamin D Solution, by Michael F. Holick, Ph.D., M.D. - to better understand the multifaceted role of Vitamin D in our overall health and proper physiological functions, including addressing immune health and cancer.

The Chemistry of Success, and Hormone Revolution, by Dr. Susan Lark, M.D. - the first book she co-authored with her late husband who was a successful businessman and is a good guide to health strategies for both men and women; the second book addresses women's health.

Curing the Incurable: Vitamin C, Infectious Diseases and Toxins, by Dr. Thomas Levy, M.D., J.D. - compendium of documented medical use of vitamin C to cure all diseases, including polio!  Intravenous vitamin C is most effective, and the book focuses on what dosages were required to halt the progression and reverse a host of infectious diseases.  Oral administration of vitamin C can work in lieu of intravenous, but there can be bowel tolerance issues.  However, the body's need for vitamin C skyrockets when fighting bacterial or viral infections because vitamin C works to offset the TOXINS produced by the pathogens, and it's those toxins that make us miserable with the symptoms we suffer. Thus bowel tolerance of vitamin C likewise shifts upwards during times of illness and can be used to regulate how much supplemental vitamin C is needed by the body to cope with the illness and its toxins.  The main reason vitamin C works though is because it breaks down into hydrogen peroxide which is what kills pathogens in the bloodstream.  If vitamin C can get INTO the bloodstream - to which end intravenous injection is most effective - then it can kill pathogens throughout the body.

Death by Calcium, by Dr. Thomas Levy, M.D., J.D. - Important to read to understand how we calcify our arteries and cause all manner of chronic degenerative diseases because of our poor understanding of calcium utilization in the body and our obsession with dietary and supplemental calcium.

Magnesium: Reversing Disease, by Dr. Thomas Levy, M.D., J.D. - another landmark work resulting from an exhaustive review of the science literature. "
The bottom line is that magnesium is the natural antidote for the root cause of all pathological damage from every disease and poisoning known to man ".

Note: Dr. Carolyn Dean, M.D., is a long-standing expert in how the body uses magnesium.  She is author of the book Magnesium Miracle.  She advocates the use of magnesium chloride as the most effective non-laxative form of magnesium to ingest for therapeutic use.  She is author of a booklet titled, Atrial Fibrillation: Remineralize the Heart, for which magnesium is a key player to restore proper heart rhythm.  Her books, articles and online interviews are valuable in learning the critical role of magnesium in addressing myriad health conditions - which, apparently, Dr. Levy is also discovering is substantiated by the science literature.

Life Extension monthly magazine, by the Life Extension Foundation (http://www.lef.org )

[Note: The newsletters have been very informative over the years. Critics complain about the costly "supplement sales" racket that accompanies these groups; yet the same critics laud the "free market" and capitalistic economy... and do we hear them complain about the even costlier drugs of the pharmaceutical companies promoted in widespread ways through the media and television?]
